Our Community Planning and Dreams, Inc.
Our community. Our plan. Our dreams.
A registered New York 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization
Solar pod, green wall
A glass pod with solar on the roof and a living wall inside, fitted out by residents in the park. Power, food, and a business in one footprint.
Market day at the museum
Kiosks in every color along the block, bunting overhead, the Brooklyn Modern Culture Museum behind. Culture and commerce on the same sidewalk.
The glass kiosk
A solar-roofed glass box of vending machines in the park: open all hours, resident-owned, no staff needed.
The principle
Autovicusfication
auto · vicus · fication — the community making itself
A community developing itself. Community-led self-development: the people who already live there building their own economy and becoming self-sufficient across as many sectors as humanly possible. It is the opposite of gentrification: the wealth, the businesses, the buildings, and the decisions stay with the community instead of replacing it.
The benchmark is the community's GDP: increasing it through a full spectrum of economic opportunity and commercial activity, so that the community is self-sufficient and OCPD is self-sufficient. It is a core, permanent principle of OCPD.
Gentrification
- Investment arrives from outside
- Prices rise, residents are pushed out
- Businesses change hands to newcomers
- Decisions made elsewhere
- The community is replaced
Autovicusfication
- The community invests in itself
- Residents stay and prosper
- Residents own the storefronts, pods, and factories
- Senators and presidents seated from the block
- Self-sufficient across every sector it can reach

Population and apartment counts: NYCHA Development Data Book, 1/1/2025

Families who stay, in homes that grow with them.
High-rises and five-family walk-ups side by side, planned by the people who live in them. A community developing itself.

High-tech factories run by resident innovators.
Industrialization and manufacturing are written into OCPD's core principle. The benchmark is the community's GDP, and the workforce is our own.
Life along the Gowanus Canal.
Walking the banks, flying kites, boats on the water. The end of the Gowanus Creek is Marechkawick, and it is ours to plan.
Sidewalk pods and storefronts owned by the people on the block.
Retail creation across a full spectrum of commercial activity, so that the community is self-sufficient and OCPD is self-sufficient.

Activated sidewalks
Sidewalks activated with opportunity, for everyone, beautifully.
When a community registers, its sidewalks and waterfronts open for business: pods, kiosks, pavilions, and floating rooms run by the residents of the block. This is what the Autovicusfication progress looks like at street level, anywhere in the region.
Sidewalk pods
Glass pods on the plaza, each one a resident-run business, open to the street.
The block at night
A storefront that lights the sidewalk after dark and keeps the block alive.
Micro-shops in a row
Three pods, three owners, one sidewalk. Retail creation at the scale of a block.
A kitchen under the trees
Timber, shade, and a counter: a food business that fits on a corner.
The newsstand, reinvented
Small footprint, high craft. Opportunity that fits between the trees and the curb.
A pavilion for makers
Sculptural, lit, and owned by the people who make what's inside.
Evening on the avenue
Families, students, and shoppers under a glowing canopy.
Pods under the canopy
Activated sidewalks: opportunity for everyone, done beautifully.
The waterfront, open for business
A floating restaurant, kayaks on the canal, terraces along the banks. The Gowanus as a working, living waterfront.
Promenade and pavilion
Two floors of glass on the water, a promenade with gardens, kayaks under the bridge. The Community Area's waterfront, built by its residents.
Walk the block
A street of sidewalk pods, every one resident-owned.
Drag to look around, scroll or use the arrows to walk, tap a pod to see who could run it.
Ten pods, one block
Each pod is a business a resident of the chapter can open. Walk down the block and tap one.
The bold vision
Add 100 businesses to your community with bold vision.
Pods on the sidewalk, storefronts on the block, workshops and factories in the back, rooms on the water. One hundred resident-owned businesses in every chapter is how a community's GDP moves, and how the Autovicusfication progress is measured.

Our own BID
A Business Improvement District run by the community it serves.
OCPD is forming its own BID, starting in the first Community Area and open to every chapter in the region, with one benchmark: grow the community's GDP north of billions of dollars, through industrialization, manufacturing, retail creation, and the full spectrum of commercial activity.
Resident Innovators
Plans for the inventors, makers, and founders who already live here: the path from an idea in a Fast Track submission to a factory floor.
Community Board Panel
Every chapter seated with equal power: at least four senators and one residential president.
Operations Core
Financial oversight, records, and continuity, staffed as much as possible by vetted residents of each community.
Temporal Intelligence Office
Shared across all chapters, permanent, from the start.
The platform
Two levels of conversation. One organization.
Every chapter gets its own live chat and chat board. Every chapter also sits in the collective: the forum, the bulletin, and the projects of the whole organization, shown as modules.
Collective live chat
Real-time, across every activated chapter.
Forum and chat board
Threads that stay, for the whole organization.
News bulletin
Announcements, elections, awards, notices.
Project modules
Every project of the organization, open to see.
Chapter live chat
For the residents of that community only.
Chapter chat board
The community's own threads, notices, records.
Representatives
Senators and residential president on the Panel.
Visionary Fast Track
Ideas and programs into OCPD's process.
Planning together
The community plans together for its future: a globally competitive epicenter of innovation.
The planning happens in our housing developments, in our companies with billion-dollar ambitions, and in our one-family brownstones. All of us working together to push our collective GDP, which rises all families, beyond what any city or outside initiative could ever dream of or fathom.
How a community joins
Three steps to a seat on the Community Board Panel.
Register
A neighborhood, a development, a city like Newark, or any community in the region registers on ocpd.live and opens its chapter: a live chat and a chat board for its residents.
Seat your representatives
At least four senators and one residential president, with equal power. Senators are elected by the community in which they reside and come from different alliances.
Carry ideas forward
Submit ideas and programs through the Community Visionary Fast Track. A chapter may also vote for home rule and run its local affairs under its own sub-bylaws.
